Foundation Reviews: Quick & Simple

Yikes! I haven't updated on this blog in almost nine months. I apologize for the lack of posts but now that it's summer vacation and I have a bit more free time on my hands I'll be able to be a little more active, fingers crossed! Anywho, I've been on the hunt for the ultimate foundation for the past few months and have decided to give you all short and sweet reviews on a few of the ones I've tried out thus far. Keep in mind I do have combination skin; oily in the t-zone and a bit drier on the cheek area. Everyone's skin is different but here's how these ones worked for me.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation
Price Point: $36.00 at most locations, I got mine at Sephora.

Shade: Alabaster No.15 - this is the first foundation I've found that is truly pale enough for my skin tone. It was so nice not having to worry about it being blended down my neck. HALLELUJAH.

Finish: It gave me a really soft, matte finish that wasn't chalky or cakey but still felt light on the skin.

Coverage: One thin layer gave me a medium coverage, I definitely had to go in with a bit of concealer on my blemishes and under eyes, but another layer of foundation would have done the trick.

Wear: It lasted a decent amount of time on my skin, especially when I paired it with a setting powder and setting spray. Without setting it I definitely got a little oily within the first four or five hours of wearing it. It also seemed to settle a little bit later on in the day.

Would I repurchase: Definitely. I loved almost everything about this foundation. The one downside was the price and the settling into lines.

Overall: 8/10

Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Supercharged Foundation

Price Point: $48.00 at most locations, I got mine at Sephora.

Shade: Ivory Light - this was also a pretty good match for my pale skin.

Finish: Natural, hydrated, dewy finish.

Coverage: I wanted to try this foundation for days I wanted light, natural coverage. It definitely gave light coverage.

Wear: This foundation was incredibly hard to blend, it would gather and break down on my nose and chin area and would cling to any sort of texture on my face. It definitely did not have great staying power for me and greatly settled into any fine lines after a few hours.

Would I repurchase: Probably not, this foundation just didn't work with my skin. Especially for the price point, I feel like I could find something much better for less money. I had high hopes for this product and was sadly let down. This foundation would probably work better for someone with very normal, smooth, and even skin.

Overall: 4/10 (especially considering the price point)

NARS Sheer Matte Foundation

Price Point: $45.00 at most locations, I got mine as a gift from my cousin.

Shade: Siberia - again, another foundation that really worked for my skin tone. Yay!

Finish: This foundation gave me more of a natural finish rather than a matte finish.

Coverage: This foundation isn't so sheer - it's more of a light-medium coverage.

Wear: This foundation is really nice and light for days I wanted more of a natural look. I didn't like it as much the first few times I tried it, being that it clanged to dry patches and was hard to blend, after applying it with a Beauty Blender, I enjoyed it much more. It didn't seem to settle into lines but the staying power wasn't the greatest.

Would I repurchase: Possibly. I definitely enjoy this foundation but it didn't make my skin look amazing enough to want to spend $45 bucks on it. I'm considering trying out Sheer Glow to see how it applies differently! I'll keep you all updated :-)

Overall: 5.5/10

bareMinerals Bareskin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation
Price Point: $29, however I got mine at work for free.

Shade: Bare Porcelain 01, this shade works really well for me, it might be a half shade too dark if anything.

Finish: It's marketed as a natural finish but I definitely find it to be a dewy, glowy finish.

Coverage: 2-4 drops on the Perfecting Face brush gives medium coverage, but it's super buildable.

Wear: It does last long on the skin, especially when I pair it with my Fair Matte powder foundation, but it does settle into fine lines later in the day but was easy to smooth out. However, it looks incredibly natural on and really does look like your own skin, which is awesome. It's unlike any other foundation I've tried.

Would I repurchase: Yup! The price point really isn't bad, considering you need such little product to complete your whole face and it's an awesome item to have in my collection for when I do want a more natural, dewy look.

*I definitely recommend using the Perfecting Face brush with it.

Overall: 7/10

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation

Price Point: $38 at most locations, I got mine at Sephora.

Shade: Fair - this one was a tiny bit darker than my complexion but was easy to work around.

Finish: Definitely a more natural, airbrushed finish - it wasn't completely matte but also was definitely not dewy.

Coverage: A pearl sized amount gave awesome full coverage, I didn't have to use nearly as much concealer as I usually do.

Wear: This was the downfall for me; when I first apply this foundation in the morning it looks amazing but within a few hours it just seemed to deteriorate, which is a bummer considering it's marketed as 12-hour wear.

Would I repurchase: Most likely; although the wearing power wasn't phenomenal, the little amount of product you have to use and the flawless effect it gave to my skin, it makes it worth the money. I recommend getting the Bamboo Kabuki brush with it - it gives a gorgeous airbrushed finish.

Overall: 7.5/10

I hope this was helpful! Let me know if you have tried any/your results & tips! xo

what's in my travel makeup bag & my vacation essentials.

Howdy everyone! I absolutely love taking a peak inside people's travel makeup bags and since I'm going away to the shore for a few days I figured I would show ya'll what I'm bringing along with me in my travel makeup bag! I'll also be sharing my "Shore/Vacation Essentials" as well not only to share my advice but to also sneakily help me remember what I need to pack for tomorrow mwahaha! I hope this helps! On with the post...

What's In My Travel Makeup Bag...

1. Urban Decay Naked & Naked 2 Palettes: It's a little unnecessary to bring both but I use the shades "Buck" and "Naked" to fill in my eyebrows and darken my crease while I use a ton of shades in Naked 2 to create my everyday look so I could not simply bring just one!

2. Sonia Kashuk Radiant Tinted Moisturizer: This product will be perfect on days when I hit the beach or will be sweating a whole bunch! It evens out my complexion and adds a healthy glow without the heavy and greasy feeling of foundation.

3. Clarins Truly Matte Foundation: For nights when I feel like I need more coverage, this foundation will be perfect. I always get so many compliments when I wear this foundation because it really makes your skin look flawless. Although it's mattifying (which is perfect for humid & hot weather), it still allows some of my natural oils to come through so I look healthy and humanly. I adore this stuff!

4. ELF Setting Mist: I've recently discovered this stuff and I can honestly say that I'm a fan. It certainly makes my makeup last a bit longer and it also just feels so darn refreshing when I spray it on! This will be perfect for the hot weather.
5. MAC Studio Fix Powder: I use this product everyday to set my concealer and control oil in my t-zone! There's no way I could leave home without it!

6. MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle: This is the perfect highlighting powder that adds such a pretty glow! I use this almost everyday and sometimes pack it on my eyelids for a shimmery sheen. It's a must have in my makeup bag.

7. Benefit Hoola Bronzer (sample size): I was obsessed with this bronzer when I first used it and figured I would bring it along with me for my trip because it's so tiny and easy to travel with! It's the perfect matte brown - and of course I need a bronzer!

8. Benefit Coralista Blush (sample size): Again, bringing this little guy because it's such a convenient size! I really like the shimmery peachy color as well!

9. NYX Blush in Silky Rose: Decided to bring this blush as well for a little variety! I've been using it everyday because it's the perfect rosy pink color.

10. Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded: Another everyday product for me. I use this under my eyeshadow and it works perfectly. Such a great neutral shade!
11. Covergirl Lashblast Mascara: Super volumizing and lengthening! Not much else to say.

12. ELF Brow & Lash Gel: I use this everyday to set my brows! I can't live without it.

13. Jordan Brow Pencil in Darkbrown: I use this pencil to shape and intensify my brows. It's so great and affordable!

14. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: The best drugstore concealer, hands down. I use it under my eyes to conceal discoloration and it works like a charm. Such a staple in my everyday look!

15. I probably don't NEED four lipsticks but I can't help myself. I'm bringing Rimmel's Nude Delight (a peachy nude), MAC's Candy Yum Yum (a neon hot pink), MAC's Ruby Woo (a matte true red), and Rimmel by Kate Moss's 107 (a vampy deep red). I'll honestly probably end up throwing a few more lip products into my bag before I leave. True Life: I'm addicted to lipstick.

Vacation Essentials

1. Sun Screen: This is pretty gosh darn obvious but sunscreen is so important, I couldn't not add it to my list! I completely regret all the times when I was younger and carelessly spent hours in the sun without protection (WHAT WAS I THINKING!?) and ended up looking like a lobster in so much pain. It's not worth the risk! Pack AND utilize tons of sun screen!

2. Snazzy Sunglasses: Sunglasses are incredibly essential on beach trips! Not only do they protect your precious lil eyeballs but they also can look super cute! I adore Target's sunglasses.

3. Texturizing Hairspray/Mousse: I don't know about you guys but I rarely use heat on my hair as is therefore on vacation I definitely do not want to be bothering with my hair so texturizing products are perfect! Just apply some after you get out of the shower, beach, or pool and your hair will look like a beautiful mermaid's!

4. Lip Balm with SPF: Again, sun protection is so crucial! Applying lip balm with SPF will prevent sunburn and gross chapped lips!

5. Camera: Don't forget your camera! Taking pictures and capturing memories is one of the best part about going away to new places.

6. Face Wash, Exfoliator, Moisturizer: Obviously you cannot forget your good old reliable face products! Ending and starting your day by taking care of your skin will ensure beautiful glowing skin throughout your trip. You can also buy mini bottles to take which are so cute and tiny!

7. Medication: Of course remember any meds you take along with things like aspirin! Having those on hand will  prevent much headache (no pun intended)!

8. Small Purse/Wristlet: Especially when exploring new terrain or walking around town the last thing you want to be lugging around is a big old handbag so bring along a small purse or wristlet to carry your essentials in.

9. iPod/iPhone & Headphones: Listening to tunes while relaxing on the beach is so much fun so obviously don't forget your iphone/mp3 and DO NOT forget your headphones or charger!!!

10. Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated in warm weather is so important! A refillable water bottle can be so handy!

11. Books & Magazines: Books and magazines are great to flip through when you're hanging on the beach or about to fall asleep! They're always perfect to have on hand.

12. Makeup Removing Wipes: After a long day of sweating in the heat it's so nice to have refreshing makeup removing wipes to swipe away your makeup! I can't live without my Simple Cleansing Wipes.

I hope this gave you guys some inspiration & ideas! I hope you have/had a great vacation and summer thus far! xo

Some snazzy little first impressions.

Hello again! I'm being wild tonight and publishing a whole two posts tonight to make up for my absolute lack of blogging. I'm pretty positive that absolutely no one actually reads what I post but I've been finding it so darn fun just blabbing on about makeup - so at least I'm getting enjoyment out of it! Anywho, I subscribed to Ispy/Glam Bag a few weeks ago and received my first bag the other day and eagerly tried out the products (I gave the mascara and BB Cream to my mom) and decided to review 'em for you!

{Also, I'm going to continue using a digital camera to take pics instead of my stinky iPhone camera! I hope the quality is a little better.}

NYX Blush in Silky Rose
This product alone was essentially worth the ten bucks I paid for the month. I've never been disappointed by NYX products and the trend certainly continued with this blush. The color of this product is the perfect rosy everyday pink and I've been indeed utilizing it everyday since I received it. I'm obsessed with the soft, silky texture of this blush as well, so incredibly easy to blend! This blush gets a 10/10 in my book!

Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Facial Scrub
I'm a huge fan of anything exfoliating and after hearing the numerous positive reviews revolving around Michael Todd products in the Youtube and blogging community, I was oober excited to try this scrub out. This scrub is incredibly gentle and I would imagine would be good for an everyday use - it didn't feel too harsh and because this scrub is certified vegan there were no funky chemicals that irritated my skin. I loved the dark grey color of this product - it seemed a little scary at first but now it makes me laugh when I put it on. Although this scrub was good, it wasn't incredible. It made my face smooth but not like some homemade/drugstore scrubs have in the past. I do appreciate the natural ingredients though. If Michael Todd products were a little more affordable I'd definitely  be more pleased.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy
Can we all just take a quick moment to address how adorable the size of this lipstick sample is - so cute! Anywho, I'm very pleased with this product. First, I adore the color; it's a beautiful bright fuchsia color and applies on beautifully. The finish is smooth and moisturizing but not too obnoxiously shiny. This lipstick glides over the lips so easily and really blends well. I really love this product but I think some drugstore lipsticks do the same job as this little guy! I can't complain though.

Would you guys like to see monthly Ipsy reviews of some of the products or are they too overdone? That would certainly be fun for me! Let me know! Love all you little cuties :)

Summer lip addictions.

Hello there my snazzy readers! I’ve came to the conclusion yesterday that I’ve basically survived off of five very exceptional lip products the past few months and I’ve decided to share ‘em with you all! So without further ado, here are my most used lip products of the summer...
Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in Nude DelightIn the past I’ve only ever worn bold lip colors or no lip color at all but as of recently I’ve found a great appreciation for nudes and lighter shades! I absolutely love this lipstick - it’s incredibly moisturizing and is so low maintenance compared to a red lip. I’ve been wearing this color like crazy lately and it really finishes off any look, bold or natural.
Rimmel London Lasting Finish By Kate Moss in 107: This lipstick is my absolute favorite. Even though it is a bit darker and vampier I’ve found myself wearing this lipstick a ton. This color makes any makeup look more dressed up and put together. I’m so excited to wear this shade in fall and winter as well. It’s finish is perfect as well - not too matte, not too shiny and not drying at all.
Wet N Wild MegaLast Lip Color in Think Pink: As I just mentioned, I’m really getting into nude, natural colors and this shade is perfect for that. I’m addicted to Wet N Wild lipsticks, they’re just so darn affordable and nice. This shade is so pretty with a bolder eye look - it really pulls it all together. It’s a fresher and more youthful shade than my typical vampier lips. These lipsticks are a bit drying but with a little Carmex it’s just fine. (psst this shade is a great dupe for MAC’s Creme Cup).
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Kiss Me Coral: I’m not a big fan of glosses typically - I find them to be too sticky, uncomfortable to wear, and just overall unflattering on me but this lip gloss is my one exception. I absolutely love the finish of this gloss, it’s not too shiny that it makes my lips look wet but it definitely gives off a pretty sheen. And the color is AMAZING - it gives the prettiest subtle coral glow and really warms up my complexion. It is also not sticky which makes me very happy ;D
MAC Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum: Ugh, this lipstick is my queen. If you’ve never seen Candy Yum Yum in person, you haven’t seen it’s true beauty. It’s neon bright hot pink color is so unique and just screams summer and spring to me. It really spices up any outfit or makeup look I wear. I always apply this shade when I need a little pizazz. Just looking at it makes me happy.

Thanks for readin'! I hope you all are doing wonderfully and having a great end of summer! What are your summer lip favs?

Paul & Joe Smoothing Base: Review.

Hello beautiful creatures! I was sent the Paul & Joe Smoothing Base from their limited edition Beach Baby Collection a few days ago and have been incredibly excited to review it ever since! The Smoothing Base claims to prime the skin, minimize pores, erase discoloration, and supply hydration for a flawless makeup application. Here are my thoughts...

When I first dispensed some of this product I noticed it had a very faint pretty smell, which is always nice, and a pale orangey-coral color. I was a little hesitant about the color because I was afraid it would discolor my skin like the Rimmel London Fix & Perfect primer had once done to me, luckily however this little guy was fine! (Sorry for the semi-gross looking swatch.)

The consistency of this base is pretty thick which was unusual for me because I'm typically used to a more light latex based or lotion based primer however I ended up liking this Paul & Joe one even better. Because this primer is so smooth and thick it ended up really covering over any dry spots, pores, and blemishes and truly created an incredibly smooth base for my foundation to latch onto. The downside to this consistency is that I felt as though I needed to apply more product to cover my whole face rather than a lotion/latex based primer that spreads thinly with a small amount of product. However, the outcome of this primer makes up for it!

This base also definitely hydrates and moisturizes the skin which is great for me because my skin has been pretty dry and flaky lately. With ingredients like apricot extract, orange flower water, and white lily extract for moisturizing as well as apricot and jojoba oils that work as emollients, I feel good about putting this product on my skin. As far as the claim that this base instantly erases discoloration and dark spots, I didn't see a huge change, but with these great ingredients maybe I'll see a change over time.

One last thing I adored about this product is how it really allowed my makeup to last longer than usual. It's been so insanely hot in New York the past few days but even through the sweat and heat the Paul & Joe Smoothing base kept my makeup holding on!

Overall? I really love this product. It's unlike any primer I've tried before in the best way possible. I think it would be great for any skin type and it has awesome skin-loving ingredients! You can buy this product here
